By being a tanker in 2vs2 I mean the classic situation where you are tanking and your partner is cying. I previously mentioned about it but since I keep seeing the same nubsense all over again I will go into subject more carefully.
90% of the games I play are proclaimed pro games so this pretty much goes to the most I play with.
1. Start doing the work early. If only ONE player is rushing you its your job to defend it, no matter does it come from south, north or middle. You have to start back Q'ing and killing the tanks before they enter into your base, after they do finish them off. Also if one scout tank get through and goes in your partner's ore and you can kill it quicker than he can, you sure should. Otherwise he might end up wasting one tesla on back which would have done more if placed on front. Your partner mini-helping you to kill the rush is all bonus.
2. Related to previous point, you must have your tanks active. It is very common nub mistake to stare your war factories and make tanks most of the early game. If you are tanking, tank, don't just make tanks. In a common case when one of the enemy team is cying too , you should go and challenge their tanker. By bringing the pressure near their base you make the builder of their team waste time by making teslas and powers, while your builder partner can focus on cying/making v2s/or at least for something useful). This also means that you can't attack too late, you have made all your tanks for waste if you won't use them when you should. Your goal should be to pr0 attack and kill both enemies.
If both players of the enemy team are tanking then you probably shouldn't challenge them 2vs1 (if not posses extra skillz).
3. Defend when needed. Majority of the times it's very bad idea to leave your base when enemy next to it. "I will go to rush their base since all their tanks are in ours" is the very classic nub logic that quickly results to ez lose.
Enemy tanks next to your base will kill your base faster than your tanks which have to drive 100 miles to kill enemy base. You basically leave your partner to 2vs1 by leaving the base when you should be focusing on killing the attackers.
However if your base is covered with teslas or if you dead or gonna be dead in 10 secs you should counter attack.
4. Counter attack. Nothing makes my balls itch more than players who actually done a good job and successfully defended the rush but then no attack back. I seen 500 times people lose their chance for ez win by just waiting to partner to build up and maybe to start build themselves instead of just pr0 counter and ez pwnage. I'm not sure do players just prefer to wait and not kill enemy by counter or do they just don't trust their tanks.
5. Trust your tanks. Despite of the fact it takes two Q'ing tanks to kill one tesla, I tend to see situations where 50 tanks are waiting scared to attack against 10 teslas. Wtf... You have to fail pretty hard to not to succeed to kill them but please at least try. Test yourself's and your tanks' powers even in later game, people usually underestimate them and just end up sitting with tanks and cying (sure nubsense) even though would be great chance to finish the game.
Protip: you just have to click new targets faster when you attack with big group of tanks since they kill the target they shoot quicker.
6. Keep tanking as long as you think you can't win without cying. By trusting your tanks, following the guidelines above and learning by experience how to really use them you will learn when it's good time to cy.
7. When you have to start cying, you still should have tanks left so remember to use them. Tanker taking 5 min cying break leaves obviously your builder partner alone. While you are cying try to at least do something, for example kill the enemy running with powers or support your partner who is pushing with teslas.
Do the stuff above and you get better, you will see the results and own more. Anyone can just sit and press the tank button ffs.
Ps. I prolly forgot some stuffs. In game it's impossible to type all the time what to do to the partner who don't do the basic things a tanker should do. Constantly writing instead of playing sure the way to the easy loss is.
