I feel like I have to talk about this sooner or later so I better get on with it.
P4-Rashowdown is one of my favorite maps. It's the map everyone was playing when I started and it was the one I wanted to learn first.
It is perfect map for hardcore tanking because of the unlimited ore you can go 7 wars as soviets or 6 wars as allies before making second ore refinery (same goes with all unlimited ore maps obviously). It's also good map for "builders" because it's possible to block entrance especially on 2vs2s, and thats what the builders like the most.
And then to the downsides. There is a misbelief that if you know P4 you are considered to be a "pro". This couldn't be more wrong. Yes, If you know P4 it's more likely that you play more games with better players and maybe even with "pros".
But try to Imagine that if all the best players played path beyond 19 games out of 20, would you then call someone who is much worse than them but knows P4 a pro? So knowing P4 doesn't make anyone a pro, In my eyes all maps are equal and it is just more beneficial to know P4 since it's the most played map, excluding super nub games on Darasta, Gold Rush or GTK Wideopen. By the way being better than a super nub doesn't make you pro either.
Ok, so this is what you all probably and hopefully already knew but the reason why I had to state the obvious is that the whole "p4 pro"-philosophy is the main reason why people get stuck to play only mostly it (ya ya ya I know now "p4 pros" are thinking: I play Ribbon too!... Oh Please). Old players used to call players like these "One Map Wonders" and looked down on them as long as they learned other maps. Robskate and Smash are two good examples of all-rounders, whose best map is not p4 but who are strong in all maps, this makes them a lot better in my eyes than many others, even tho on 2vs2 on p4 they might lose vs "p4 pros".
After you getting comfortable in one map, in this and most cases its p4 but in some cases some other map. It is hard to start playing other maps, cuz you don't want to look like a nub after you been looking good on p4 in front of your friends.
However there are many really important things on other maps that p4 doesn't have and if you are willing to humble down and not mind losing it will improve your game a lot (in all maps including your precious p4).
The most obvious thing that p4 doesn't have is proper money management, you might falsely belief that on Ribbon you need good money management since it's gem map, but nope. Making second ref earlier and 2 extra trucks instead of 1 isn't considered as good money management skillz. Path, Hjk6 and Union Break are the ones you wanna learn to be able to be a master of coins.
Second thing that P4 lacks is scouting skills. Ya, it might sound like its not big of a deal, but in many maps scouting carefully is very important, you have to send scouts everywhere and then scroll wildly all the time to see if rush is coming. This improves your awareness since on p4 people most often just sit and watch their wars 24/7.
And last but not lest: Jew defense. To put it shortly, if you can stop jew on Path or for example on Arena Valley where there are 4 ways tanks might come instead of 1, you will be able to defend it on P4.
Most of the readers will think "I knew all this already". Knowing is not doing and furthermore it's not mastering. If you wan't to get to the next level you need to step up and practice these things, no matter if losing and we honestly don't care if you lose so you shouldn't either. A real pro beats people on opponent's best map not his.
The Best way to practice without of the "fear" to humiliate yourself is to find good practice partner to practice these maps. That's what we did.
Or you can hire At0m1 for private lessons to improve extra fast :D
