Around 2006 GameSpy (GS) wasn't working well any more and people moved to Kali to play. In the same way many players quit when MPlayer was bought by GameSpy in 2001, some also quit when GS died.
Kali was pretty grim place and not very noob friendly. It was hard to find if you didn't know about it, it had problems to get the game work and you had to sign up to get serial keys to use it. If you didn't pay 10$ registration fee you had to make trial account every 30 days.
Somebody once said that "Kali is from days that only nerds played RA" and I have to agree.
However although it had it cons it also had it pros. Some of the old skool players who didn't play on GameSpy a lot were playing in Kali. Kali is also where I played the most of my games with Milo234 before he retired.
P4-Rashowdown was the most played map in Kali too but for 3vs3 and 4vs4 people often picked "big" (the original) versio of P4 with 3 entrances. Faramir Wideopen and Jailbreak was also often played 3v3/4v4 map. I preferred big p4 over wide since i'm not fan of modified ground speed.
When I started in Kali top players were JJFjr (who only played rarely) and Milo234, everyone else were only second best. I won some games vs. both of them but I hadn't yet gained my true powers.
2007 was my year to shine, FatherRavel (aka NastyNate) had finally learned how to tank and he was eliminating his enemies like flies. Me and he had some epic 1vs1s including Q-master games that lasted 30 mins and all money run out.
I also played a lot of games with Dizzy, FattyNoob, Deztroyer, Mazell, Romper, Ehy, Krez and pretty much all the rest of the lobby. Hardest opponents for me were FattyNoob, NastyNate, and Krez. Also my old apprentice Romper had improved and was able to challenge anyone in Kali. Other good players worth of mentioning who I mostly played 2vs2 with were: Xeth, tbyte, Hitman, Soleman, Herm, Laddida, Ifuc, yoyo, notonrouter, katsh, jackal, displacer and prolly bunch of others that don't come in my mind..
In the beginning of 2008 I had to go to military service and my playing became less and less active. After me finally quitting in 2009 many other great tankers unfortunately did too.
Kali's biggest weakness was that there weren't many players around especially during the week and sometimes you had to wait hours to get a game.
