As you all probably know it's called Cy:ing when you make multiple Construction yards to boost up your building speed. This is a cool aspect of RA but it has many weaknesses.
It's a common misbelief that a pro builder can be as good as pro tanker. However there are many things that make this untrue. First of them is that cying only works in maps you have a lot of money and/or long distance between players (and still a lot of money), also having a small entrance where tanks have to get through is helpful.
This has lead to trend of the people making maps that enforce cying. Such maps are for example GTK p4-Wideopen, Darasta maps and Gold Rush, which where even in 1vs1 game you can block your entrance without much effort.
So basically you "can't" cy on standard maps or maps that have little money. Even on maps that have small entrance and more money on 1vs1 tanking still owns, if you are good enough. So this leads to the fact that Cy:ing really only works on 2vs2s where the conditions stated above are met. Even on 2vs2s if you don't have really good partner one of you still have to tank.
So like I have said before what makes a pro is an excellence in all maps and all game types and if you can't tank it is impossible to be excellent on all maps and all game types. However even a good tanker needs to know how to Cy and when you are already a very good tanker cying is rather easy to master since you are already very quick and mastered all bookmarks. Not all medalists are very good tankers.
Also one of the major weakness of cying is that if your opponent knows you are cying it is rather easy to counter; early 5 tanks double jew or cy yourself and do flamer rush are just couple of examples.
So for conclusion cying can work in 2v2 on money maps, it can be fun and I do it for that or/and to challenge myself but overall it's not very competitive strategy if all game types/maps are included. I'm a believer of the old claim that 2 pro tankers beat 2 "pro" cyers every time, there's just not many pro tankers around.
