In October 2016 I made poll in RA Times to ask players' favorite game duration. The most votes wen't to "10 minutes" making it the #1 choice for Red Alert game duration. Magically "10 minutes" got ten votes and second most votes went to "6 minutes" with six votes :D.
All other choices had some support but less than six votes.
The least votes had "1h 12min" "1h 40min" and "40mins" games.

I have often thought is the reason why people nowadays tend to play real long games because they just like long games. According to poll it isn't tho. In many cases, you can see right from the start that the game is going to be a long one.
There's many reasons why games become long. Long games can be fun with a good partner and hungry enemy. When everybody in the game trying to push and win right from the start it's usually exiting and fun to play even tho it would become a long game.
Problem now is, that in last years it's been trending to make games last longer than they would normally last. It is mistakenly considered pro to survive 20 mins and then trying to push and win, if enemy is good this push may take another 20 mins, in which time you might still lose the game.
With extra skills and using more aggressive strategies, it's most often possible to win the same game in 10-15 mins (which is favorite duration of many players anyway) that now takes +30 mins. People often recognize that their extra skills are not good enough, and instead improving extra skills they rather pick more "safe" strategy which leads to unnecessarily long games.
I don't judge anyone who actually likes to play real long games and I agree sometimes they good. However if you wan't to prove you're pwner, you give better image by finishing games when they can be finished, instead of have people thinking "1h game here we come" when they see you.
