Couple articles ago I was writing about "Semi Old SkOoL", which ended me telling about games in Kali, this article is sequel to that. I had installed and been playing in Kali about half year before Game Spy Arcade (GSA) died, but after that it was the most popular RA server for pro games. Beside Kali there was Xwis where some nubenators were playing but not many and then there was CGA (Central Asian Gaming Alliance) where chinese played and where I too made an entrance and started mini playing.
There used to be a saying "only nerds play in Kali" since it often took some effort to get working. Me and ORA-milo234 were both on router and in GameSpy two routers couldn't be in a same game, which was the biggest reason why I got Kali in the first place. Me and Milo234 played around 50 games almost every day in Kali, until he retired in 2007.
If you didn't want to pay 10-15$ for Kali, you had to make new email and register new trial account every month. Everyone had own serial and some people wrote down players' serials to bust them if they went hiding. Later years people had more advanced IP scanners for the same purpose.
There were some Old SkoOL people who hadn't played in GSA but stayed in Kali instead. One of them who had rarely
played in GSA was Herm, who have since beginning of cnc5 become a uncle figure of many new skoolers. There were some others Herm type of players around who possessed similar skill set, sucha players were for example HITMAN, NotOnRouter and yOyO.
There were around 6 class A pr0 tankers and another half dozen decent ones around so even though there were only 5% of today's active players there were good games. Community was tight and like today all good players knew each others. Nubsense was less of a trend because most of the players been around long. Every time new server and new community have rose they are dealing with the same stuff that people who been around longer have already seen. The best way to deal with nubsense is to dodge it. Top players at the time were (in random order) Krez, FatherRavel (=NastyNate), FattyNoob, Ehy (=Trilogia, Deathyriel) Romper, Xethman (=Adrian, Smurfette) Mazell (busted for autoclicker in cnc5), Deztroyer (busted for macro/autoclicker on cnc5), Dizzyman and Laddida.
Other ones who were considered strong were Soleman, Herm, Cousintank, Hitman, NotOnRouter, yOyO, Displacer, Jackal (=Gawd), Ifuccuup, Katsh and Eric76.
In 2007 I started to play in CGA. It wasn't easy either since website was in Chinese as well as registration. CGA had more players than Kali, but for a westerner games were often laggy and there were many nubenators. In Kali the most popular map was still P4 but in CGA Money Map 2 (Map2, M2) was by far the most popular. Chinese #1 was Younger_AI with whom I played it a lot, but I also played with many others and soon gained a humble nickname "Champion behind the seas" xD or shortly guan jun. Other good players in CGA were: Jazz, Tabo, Tankj (who all 3 played in Kali too) and GiGi, Mr.White, Stanic, but I've forgotten most of their names, there were very few tankers beside stanic and younger. Me, Milo234, Dez, Ehy, Krez and Turret (probably some others too) all randomly played in CGA and this lured Stanic, Younger and some other chinese players to come play in Kali too.
Maybe I make part 3, if requested.
